It’s the most basic interpretation, but this challenge caused me to instantly recall a day wandering around charming Bruges: a reflection of reflections.
In Venice a few years ago, we rented an apartment for a week in a former palazzo overlooking the Grand Canal. I took almost 800 photos and long to return. It was heaven! Everywhere I looked, an image waited to be captured. Initially I was upset about the reflection of the other side of the street in this shot. The more I looked at it, the more I began to like the feeling it gave me of fusing the intriguing tradition of masks in magical Venice’s history with every day life.

Amazing!!! I have been to Venice many times, but have never captured any images the way you have done in these two. Actually, towards the end, we didn’t even take a camera… You obviously have an artist’s eye. My husband is an architect, and he “sees” things differently; I am a former literature and culture prof, and see things in the context of writing. Good thing others see more! Thanks for these revelations.
I’m glad you enjoyed the shots. I have many friends who don’t take photos, so you are not alone. I can’t imagine traveling without a camera. In fact, I can’t imagine a day without a camera!
Need to dig in my huge boxes… We have recently moved to California to be close to our daughters, in our retirement and “older” age (the Spaniards call them “golden years” and that’s what they should d be!), and we brought 32 years of Maryland life, plus 14 in Illinois (after having been born and lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina). I need volunteers to help me go through my photos! 😉
They do accumulate! The beauty now is you can take bundles into photo stores and have them stored on disc to enjoy so easily. I agree it is quite a challenge “downsizing” and adjusting to the golden years. We are lucky to be around to do it!

Two great shots! I love the Venice window! I love Venice …. did a wonderful walking tour there – exploring all the varied architecture as well as off the beaten path sights. I loved early evening there after the day visitors left – it was quiet and peaceful including the main piazza.
Oh yes … Venice after the crowds leave is truly magical. Like you, I loved wandering the back streets as I tried to absorb the true feeling of this unique town. I have no doubt your camera shutter was steaming like mine!
