À la plage … to the beach!

If it’s Friday, it must be France …

Pour yourself a favourite summertime beverage and cool off with a visit to a few of my favourite beaches in the south of France .

Going to the beach on the Côte D’Azur is as much about the setting and scenery as anything else … and …bien sûr … food, of course … scrumptious seafood at the beach restaurants and super yummy baguette sandwiches and frites served from Le Truck or Le Snack or Le Whatever at the public beaches. Maybe it was the sea air or we were just lucky but we were never disappointed!

The beaches to the east of Antibes are pebble and take some getting used to. To the west, they are sand. Everywhere the beautiful Mediterranean cools you down. Although the beaches in my photos may look busy, there are countless secluded coves offering peaceful escape. I’ll save those for another post.

Where is your favourite beach? Is it nearby or a bit of a hike? On a hot day would the beach or an ice cream be your first choice to cool down? Here’s to finding a pleasing way to stay cool in this long hot summer!

Patricia Sands lives in Toronto, Canada when she isn't somewhere else, particularly the south of France. With a happily blended family of seven adult children and, at last count, six grandchildren, life is full and time is short. Beginning with her first Kodak Brownie camera at the age of six, she has told stories all of her life through photography. Much to her surprise a few years ago, she began to write and has now published three novels, including two that are part of a six-book series set in the south of France. Love France? Love her work! Check out her website www.patriciasandsauthor.com She is particularly drawn to the rewarding friendships of women and the challenges many embrace once their families are grown. "It's never too late to begin something new," she enthuses. "As the saying goes, just do it!"

  1. OooOOoooh, those photos are amazing. We really do need to have a WANA reunion in the south of France. Any reason to go there! It would be so great to see these places in person.

As for my favorite beach? It’s probably the one down the street because I can drive there in five minutes, spend an hour or so enjoying the sun and sand, then go home before I get too crispy. The thing about the beach is, I love it, but don’t like what the sun does to my skin.

Thanks for the fabulous trip to France. I’m just going to watch the slideshow again and again.

    1. I was surprised at how often we did come upon quiet spots and secluded coves. You must have a lot of special and private places on the water in your beautiful part of the world.

  2. My favorite beach is at Cape Hatteras at the Outer Banks
Beautiful, isolated, secluded… Since it takes me 16 hours to get there I have to stick with ice cream. Mint chocolate chip please!

    1. Oh yes, Cape Hatteras is magnificent. I’ve only driven through there once but have never forgotten the dramatic landscape. We should do a Pinterest page of our favourite beaches. If we’re going to ice cream, I’ll have Pralines and Cream (but not too often…!).

  3. So many gorgeous beaches and calanques and rocky outcrops, they might not be like the wild, windswept, people-less beaches of NZ that I grew up with, but I love them just as much in France and its true, its not too hard to find a special spot, we found the perfect place yesterday at La Cap Rousset in Carry-Le-Rouet, it had everything we needed and was a perfect day.

  4. South of France – love it! I think our favourite beach there was on the island of Porquerolles – tiny and secluded when we went there – oops, must be 30 years ago! Also loved Corsica. Closer to home we are off to Anglesey this week – many stunning beaches there of all kinds. Aberfraw, Cable Bay, Wern y Wilan. Actually unbeatable, if it weren’t for that minor weather problem!

    1. So many countries have their own special beaches. How lucky we are to get to experience them! I’ve always wanted to visit the magnificent beaches of England but so far haven’t gotten past Brighton. I’m off to google the ones you mention. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  5. Summer! Beaches! Sunshine! The sea breeze! Yes! My favorite place in the south of France is Menton, I love its perfect French-Italian fusion. For a beach holiday, I would always choose Sardegna (Sardinia), more beautiful and pristine than the Caribbean.

    I love your photographs!

  6. Gorgeous beaches, Patricia! I love your private tours of France! My favorite beach–hard to choose– I guess I have two favorites: Wells, Maine has a lovely beach where you can walk forever because the sand is hard packed. It’s one of the few areas that isn’t totally rocky. My other favorite is anywhere on the Outer Banks, NC. 4 years ago my husband and I spent a week in Corolla at a gorgeous, huge house we rented with 12 of our friends from an online group. We had a blast-bonfires on the beach, long walks, surf fishing.

  7. I want to go to all of those beaches! Wow. Spectacular Patricia!!!
Hubby and I have a fab beach that’s about a 2 hour drive away. We love to escape and spend a day or two there…catch some rays. Float in the water. It’s where he proposed so it has very special meaning for us….

It's always good to hear to from you!
